Cancer Research Charity game raises lots of money
You will be delighted to hear that the game on Saturday, actually achieved £935!
This was helped by some very generous local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle, held after the match.
The game itself was very entertaining and Eastbourne were 17-0 down at half time however playing up hill second half managed(some how) to put 21 points on the board with one try from Martin King and two from Oli Mayo, with each being converted by Aaron Standing, making the final score 21-17 to Eastbourne.
So in summary, a sunny day, great entertainment, a small amount of booze consumed and a lot of money raised!
Thank you to all of the businesses that kindly donated raffle prizes to the game in aid of Cancer Research

| October 2007 |
One hundred and forty members of the club and their guests enjoyed a fundraising dinner held at the Grand Hotel on Friday 21st September. Timed to coincide with the Rugby World Cup, the event was made possible by the generosity of sponsors and also by the efforts of Bruce Hayter and Lynette Rendle at Rix & Kay, sponsors of ERFC
Highlights of the evening included the general conviviality; excellent food and wine and the unique ambience of the five star Grand Hotel. However it was David Duckham MBE, ex England and British Lion who proved to be the star attraction. As an after dinner speaker he proved to be masterful; his audience, it can be safely assumed, enjoyed every minute of his address which had something for everyone. The evening concluded with an auction of sporting memorabilia from which a signed picture of Jonny Wilkinson was particularly sought after
All profits from the dinner will go to boost the reserves of the club and it is hoped that a similar occasion can be organised in the future |

WE NEED YOUR HELP
In an effort to contact and engage as many of our present and past non-playing members as possible, we have prepared a directory of over 180. This includes a large number of past players with which there has been little contact in recent years but for whom we have contact details, so we can remedy this deficiency on the part of the Club. However, there are quite a number of other past members, principally former players, who we would dearly like to contact and re-engage them into the Club’s fortunes and activities but we simply don’t have their contact details. We’ve listed them below.
So if you have their current addresses, phone nos., and/or email addresses can you please send them to:
Peter Lloyd at 51 Burton Rd., Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN21 2RF, Phone : 01323 – 723905. E-mail: pblloyd@tinyworld.co.uk or Suzanne Wood at 133 Milton Rd., Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN21 1SS, Phone: 01323-739179. E-mails: suandalwood@dsl.pipex.com or suzannewood@price.co.uk
Or you may wish to contact them yourselves first to ensure they wish to provide these details. Our aim is to have an active but informal Patrons’ Association and to have regular news items involving members of such a group on our web site.
THOSE WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT:
Colin Attwood, Mark Feeney, Paul Goad, Tony Nurse, John Purnell, Robbie Wakeling,
Bob Waite, Dave Webbon, Rod Reynolds, and Ryan Stevenson
We have been pleased to contact
Tony Avon, former captain of the Club, who is now living in Guilford, Surrey and our Secretary Hugh Graham has had a great letter from Michael Johnston, now living in New South Wales, Australia. Michael was a great player and organiser for the Club in the Fifties, he is now in his eigthties but gets over to the old country once a year and was over for our old sods dinner last season. |

Adam Flude, Andy Price, Dom Groenen and James Coulthard represent Sussex at Senior level in the demolition of Buckinghamshire
A Sussex squad drawn principally from Haywards Heath, Worthing and Eastbourne demolished Buckinghamshire by a massive 104 points to 5 margin, scoring 28 points in the first 18 minutes, doubling it by half time and, although the play was less fluid in the second half, with both sides making substitutons, adding another 48 after the interval.
Eastbourne props Adam Flude and Andy Price were prominent in a cohesive Sussex pack with lock Dom Groenen having a fine game, fielding the numerous kick offs well and showing great support to the ball carriers as well as scoring two tries in the first half. Dave Wattam ( Haywards Heath) was adynamic open side flanker whilst former Eastbourne player Joe Govett 'at scrum half, and fly half Rob Parry (Bognor) combined well to release marauding centres Terry Butler ( captain, Worthing) and Nick Miller (Haywards Heath) and pacey full back Adam Phillips (Haywards Heath), who scored a hatful of tries between them. Eastbourne inside centre James Coulthard replaced Miller with 20 minutes to go and attuned himself to county rugby. The County play Hampshire at Trojans RFC on May 5th. and Dorset and Wilts. at Swanage and Wareham RFC on May 12th.

In tricky conditions, dominated by a very strong Sussex pack, Essex were outgunned and outplayed, with Sussex winning 24 : 0. Throughout the game Charlie and Jake played a major part in a huge team effort. Congratulations must go to both players who had excellent games.
As a result both players have been selected again to play Surrey on the 11th March at Haywards Heath RFC. |

The Eastbourne team will consist of U17's and U18's and the opposition are European U18's so it should be a huge challenge, especially as Belgium are going on to compete at the International Colts competition afterwards!
