Victorious U16s Return from Catalonia Tour 12-14 Feb 2010 Added on Sun 28 Feb 2010

Eastbourne Rugby Football Club Under 16’s are recovering from a packed weekend as they took their winning squad to Catalonia thrashing their Barcelona and Cornella counterparts. For the first time this year, the Club took their annual tour to Europe to compete against Spanish teams FC Barcelona and RFC Pablo Nou last weekend. Up first was an afternoon game against FC Barcelona at the state of the art La Teixonera Sports Complex on Saturday 13 February, playing on an impressive new 3G artificial surface. Eastbourne’s under 16’s ran out confidently to face a Barcelona ‘cadets’ side, under 16’s and 17’s, who from first impressions, looked formidable. From the start, early exchanges showed both sides kicking ability and made full use of the pitch making sure both teams’ lungs were working properly. When the ball slowed, the Eastbourne pack worked hard to press home an advantage and pinned the home side back against a spirited defence. All members of the Eastbourne line continued to work hard as the ball was spread wide and a probing pass eventually found Calvin Foard who decisively forced himself into the corner to make it 5-0. Both sides pressed hard during their advantage in the first half, showing strength, pace and good technique and welcomed the half time whistle. Despite being down, Barcelona made it clear they were not going to lay down in the second half and camped in the Eastbourne 22 but Eastbourne, during a brief exit from their own half, picked up a silly penalty and a quick thinking Will Bettles ‘tapped and went’, punishing Barcelona under the posts. James O’Donnell converted pushing the score to 12-0. Barcelona still refused to give up and with Eastbourne pressing hard to further extend their lead, the Spanish squad pulled themselves together scoring and converting 12-7. A workman-like performance from Eastbourne battled to hold out the pressure from Barcelona, with the Eastbourne camp relieved as the final whistle blew. It was a similar success story for the English team on Sunday 14 February as the weary Eastbourne squad who had stayed up late enjoying the Barcelona night life, faced RFC Pablo Nou at the home of RFC Cornella. Despite weather conditions more akin to Eastbourne on a chilly afternoon than sunny Spain, the game proved a little one sided with only five Eastbourne players not featuring on the score sheet with a lead of 36-0 at half-time. The second half saw the score extended even further with the young Pablo Nou side constantly out manoeuvred and out powered. With both games ending with a ‘third half’ where the host teams entertained the travelling Eastbourne squad, good international relations were formed despite the language barrier and the defeat. Eastbourne Rugby Football Club are looking forward to continuing their winning form on next year’s tour.

Tesco Vouchers Scheme Starts Soon Added on Thu 28 Jan 2010

Members, the Tesco Voucher scheme starts again on the 1st March. Please collect and donate the vouchers to the Club as over the years we have managed to acquire much needed equipment to continue to provide the skills to every age group. Why not encourage friends and family to pass them our way and remember vouchers are given for fuel as well.

In these tough times every little counts as the cost of purchasing such equipment continues to rise and by using this Scheme we can supply each age group with new balls and tackle bags.

£20,000 Fundraising Target Added on Tue 10 Nov 2009

Over the next two months Eastbourne Rugby Club is attempting to raise £20K to go towards the cost of the new floodlights. The benefits will be enormous not just for current players but for generations to come. Over the coming months there will be numerous fund raising activities taking place with perhaps the biggest event being the RFU Grand Draw.

The RFU Grand Draw is a raffle with some incredible prizes and huge money making potential for our club. The more tickets we sell the better. Each ticket costs £1.00 but we the Club get 90p. Each age group including the four senior sides will receive a number of tickets around 10 per player. They can pay for them themselves or sell them to people outside, basically the more the members manage to sell the better for our club.

Now here's the real prize.

The Club which sells the most tickets in England will receive a special prize from the RFU, rumoured to be a days training with the England Squad.

ERFC U12's v Worthing RFC U12's Added on Tue 27 Oct 2009

Report for ERFC U12's v Worthing RFC on 25/10/09 Our first game:- as usual tale of two halfs, first half we were finding our feet, which was part down to the fact we had to make some changes in the forwards, with Jack Baldwin playing as a lock(first time in the forwards)and we lacked desire and eagerness to win the ball in all aspects of the game. Half time and all level, second half great improvement from the squad, and all could have been different if our players passed the ball to colleagues in open space, still lesson learnt. Game one was drawn 0 - 0. The second game against Worthing was a great contest, good running by both sides, Worthing scored the first try which had the desired effect for our players to play some open rugby, as we scored a fine try from Finn Howard, but that was after some stirling work and quick rucking from our forwards, so big thanks to them. Thank you, to Nigel Gossedge for taking on the referee duties. The squad:- Jack Ryan,Jasper Godin,Jake Batchellor,Sasha Agabahala,Jack Baldwin,Ciaran Bowling,Ben Biltcliffe,Huxley Veasey,Lewis Headland, Finn Howard(captain), Robert Lacey, Mikey Roddis, Joesph Field,Louis Strudwick. This coming weekend we are at Crowborough RFC festival.
