Cinque Ports XV 0 v Eastbourne Golds XV 37
Eastbourne Golds carried on from where they left off the previous week thrashing Cinque Ports 0-37.
Cinque Ports could only field a team of 14 players due to a lack of numbers; however it was the flowing rugby of Eastbourne Golds that proved to be their down fall. Two early penalties allowed Eastbourne to go 0-6 up within 10 minutes of the start, both being kicked by Aaron Standing who had a fine afternoon with the boot.
The Eastbourne forwards were dominant both in the scrum and in the lineout allowing the ball to be shipped out to the backs. It seemed that Kris Watts playing on the wing would be the first to score. However after a period out of the game due to injury it appeared that he had forgotten where the dead ball line was and the try was ruled out.
Shortly after the restart Paul Cottam scored Eastbourne’s first try of the afternoon and showed how well he is playing at the inside centre position this season. The try was promptly converted by Aaron Standing. Eastbourne continued to surge forward playing free flowing rugby and this led to the second try of the afternoon scored by Tom Wallis playing at outside centre. The third try of the first half was scored by Alan Sturrock having an impressive performance at scrum half, this was duly converted.
In the second half Cinque Ports tried in vein to stop the relentless pressure from Eastbourne. Although they did manage to stop the Eastbourne team from scoring at the same rate as they did in the first half, they were unable to stop Alan Sturrock scoring his second try of the afternoon, with Aaron Standing converting as well as scoring yet another penalty. The final score was 0-37 and capped a great performance from both forwards and backs.
