Hastings 14 Eastbourne 8

Eastbourne Gold’s travelled to Hastings for a very competitive fixture last weekend. Eastbourne made a good start going 0-3 up thanks to a well taken drop goal in front of the posts from Aaron Standing. The rest of the first half was a fairly even contest played at both ends of the field.

After the restart the Eastbourne players moved up a gear and began to assert their authority on the game. Thanks to the outstanding effort put in by the Eastbourne forwards the backs were able to start moving the ball around. Eastbourne went 0-8 up thanks to a superb individual try by Tom Wallis. The resulting conversion was missed however Eastbourne continued to push forward, prompting Hastings to bring on a handful of first team players. This had an immediate effect on the game allowing Hastings to score making the game 7-8. Eastbourne dug deep and thanks to a huge defensive effort managed to prevent Hastings scoring, holding up the ball on their own try line on several occasions.

Eastbourne must have thought they had done enough to win the game with their massively spirited performance, however with the Hastings first team players starting to find their feet they managed to push over the Eastbourne try line to score with almost the last play of the game making the final score 14-8 to Hastings.
