Hellingly 2nd XV 0, Eastbourne 3rd XV Golds 12

Eastbourne Golds travelled to Hellingly for a local derby last weekend.

The local derby is always a competitive fixture and this one was no exception. The game was extremely physical from the first whistle but it was Eastbourne who had the momentum. Thanks to an outstanding performance by the Eastbourne forwards the backs were able to find space around the pitch.

A great move by the Eastbourne centres allowed Chris Flemming to crash over for the first try of the afternoon, which he promptly converted. The rest of the first half was a fairly even contest with Hellingly coming close on a couple of occasions.

After the restart Eastbourne carried on where they left off, the forwards again making plenty of space for the backs to move the ball around. A particularly good move involving nearly all of the Eastbourne backs allowed Chris Flemming to go over for his second try of the afternoon, showing he is certainly growing into the inside centre role after a period spent away from the game.

At this point Hellingly had nothing left in reply and Eastbourne went on to win the game 0-12.

Mom Chris Flemming.
