Eastbourne Golds 48, Uckfield 2nd XV 10

Eastbourne Golds hosted Uckfield 2nd XV last weekend. Eastbourne was clearly up for the game and pressured the Uckfield team from the first whistle. With the forwards winning all the early ball the backs were able run at the Uckfield defence and this led to Eastbourne’s first try from Aaron Standing who also took the conversion. This provided Eastbourne with the platform that they needed to continually attack Uckfield which resulted in Eastbourne scoring another four unanswered try’s courtesy of Gavin Davison (2), Chris Flemming and Ian Newman.

Uckfield were clearly under massive pressure from the in form Eastbourne team however their only score of the first half was a well taken penalty. At half time the score was 34-3 and it was clear it was Eastbourne’s game to lose.

In the second half the Uckfield team came straight back at Eastbourne with some well worked attacking moves and it was only thanks to some fantastic last ditch tackles that the Uckfield team only scored once in the second half. Eastbourne added to their tally of try’s thanks to Matthew Saunders and a third try from Gavin Davison who was having a particularly good afternoon.

The final score was 48-10 to Eastbourne providing a big confidence boost going into the final games of the season.
