Eastbourne RFC u13’s vs Hastings RFC (2/3/2008) League.
Eastbourne 50 v Hastings 17
Eastbourne are currently third in the league behind East Grinstead and Edenbridge and two league wins will put them in contention for the runner-up position. Eastbourne needed to deliver a convincing win and looked to be on the score sheet within the first four minutes but flanker Peter Newman was robbed of the ball whilst crossing the Hastings try line. However, within ten minutes were 14- 0 up Alexander Voss Hillier scoring and converting all the points. Eastbourne continued to dominate the play forwards and backs working together to open up the opposition defence, further tries followed from Tom Pashley, Harvey Padget and Voss Hillier adding a further nine points to the teams growing tally. The half was rounded off when Austin Hogben took a tap penalty from 8 meters out to bulldoze has way over. Eastbourne turned around 38 points in their favour without reply.
Changes at half-time seemed to affect the continuity of back play, and Hastings scored three tries, converting one to close on Eastbourne’s score. Eastbourne replied in style when from just outside the Eastbourne 22 Louis Hall put in a massive clearance kick, the ball stopping just over the try line between the posts and Voss Hillier won the foot race to ground the ball. The next try followed from some fine forwards play, Ricky Van Bentham making a strong run into the Hasting 22, Padget picking and going from the ruck and Dominic O’Malley dumping the ball over the Hastings line. Chris Maskill converted, the referees whistle signalling a 50 – 17 win. MOM Alexander Voss Hillier – commanding performance at fly half.
