Eastbourne RFC u13’s vs Rye RFC (03/02/2008) League.

Eastbourne u13’s produced the finest performance of their season with an emphatic 52 – nil win over Rye. Eastbourne with the wind behind them and the sun on their backs, opened the scoring within four minutes of the kick off, following strong forwards play close on the wing newcomer Tom Pashley crossed the line.

The forwards continued to dominate the play, providing a platform for the backs, and strong running from inside centre Joe Skeet allowed him to add to the tally. The forwards continued their good work winning set pieces, a fine box kick from scrum half Louis Hall produced a line–out just outside the Rye 22, flanker Harvey Padget then stole the Rye throw in and made a bullocking run to bring the score with Alexander Voss Hilliers conversions up to 19 – nil.

Throughout the game lessons learnt on the training pitch were put into practice, the backs threatened every time in attack and through working as a unit two further tries were added by Chris Maskill and Voss Hillier, the half closing when Padget having his game of the season added another score, to produce a 38 – nil half time lead.

The elements were against Eastbourne in the second half and complacency could have allowed Rye back into the game. However, it was a day when cool heads were maintained, and playing against the wind Eastbourne continued to dominate both territory and possession. From a 5 metre scrum No 8 Joshua Rafferty McWall, broke off and dived over. Rye continued to defend well and made many breaks but on too many occasions lost the ball in contact. Eastbourne capitalised on this and picking up a dropped ball fly half Voss Hillier bought his personal tally for the day to 15 points.
Maskill converted to bring the game to a close. MOM an excellent team performance anyone could have been chosen, but for a fine display Harvey Padget.
