On Sunday 8th October, the Fortress was witness to a spectacle of mini-rugby. The Under 10s/11s came from far and wide to celebrate The Great Game.

Tents were raised, and banners unfurled by Crowborough, Crawley, Hove, Haywards Heath, Chichester, Heathfield, East Grinstead, Hastings & Bexhill, Shoreham, Burgess Hill, Uckfield, Seaford and the hosts, Eastbourne.

The whole day ran like clockwork, thanks to an army of coaches and volunteers. A special mention to Jane and the catering team, who tirelessly fed the supporters, Becky who doubled as parking marshal, transforming into First Aider once the tournament had got under way and indeed to Claire Burgum and the Coaches of both age groups who had organised everything to ensure a success.

The Stars of the Festival were the boys and girls who played the game with such enthusiasm, and sportsmanship. If anyone had doubted the benefits of Mini-Rugby, they would have been convinced by the friendly rivalry, and the energy of Sunday's event. Gareth Jones, Headmaster of St Andrews, and Joe Marler from Harlequins were there to encourage the young players, and although there were no cups to be won, there was one undoubted winner....the Great Game of Rugby!
