A weekend that saw their highest scoring match to date, 3 - 57! Girls just want to have fun, and that’s exactly what they did.
Burgess Hill Women were unfortunately unable to field a full team for the game on Sunday 11th October 2026, meaning only 14 players on the pitch. With sportsmanship in mind, Eastbourne matched, dropped a winger, and took flankers out of the scrums.
FIRST HALF
Eastbourne kicked off the match with a soaring ball from Fly Half, Jasmine Moulding that was quickly chased down and turned over by the forwards. Quick hands out of the ruck from No.9, Emily Harwood-King, to the well positioned backs meant Centre, Ellisha Spicer, scores the 1st try of the game only 2 minutes in. A tricky conversion to make, but Fly Half, Jasmine Moulding, makes it look easy.
Eastbourne scrum down in Burgess Hill 22’. Prop, Becky Sweetman, back into the game just 10 weeks postpartum, used her incredible power, along with the rest of the pack, to force Burgess Hill back. An expert hook from Immy Graham cleared the ball to be shipped out from Scrum Half to Full Back, Saz Kavanagh, eagerly waiting on the wing. She receives the ball, faced with a wall of Burgess Hill. Fearless, she drives forward and scores the 2nd try of the match.
In the 20th minute, Centre Sophie Coates, with support from her back line, times a perfect run through Burgess Hill’s defense. Taking contact from not 1, not 2 but 3 Burgess Hill players, like butter, Sophie slipped through to score the 3rd try of the match.
Burgess Hill, under pressure at the line out, are unable to match Eastbourne's hunger. Flanker, Danielle Angell, steals the ball and sends it Eastbourne's way. Eastbourne, dominant in the rucks and strong in the attack, gave Flanker, Jazz Dymott, the opportunity to break through and score the 4th try for Eastbourne.
Some confusion from Eastbourne’s defensive line on how far 10 meters actually is, meant Burgess Hill had their first break of the game. With a quick penalty taken from their No.9, Eastbourne now had to put up a fight against strong Burgess Hill forwards and some messy rucks. They made good ground into Eastbourne's 22’ but huge hits from Captain, Becks Tyler and the rest of Eastbourne's forwards turned over the ball and Eastbourne were once again back in possession.
After multiple downs, Eastbourne gained back lost ground. Quick hands and thinking from the Scrum Half, Emily Harwood-King, got the ball out to Centre, Sophie Coates, who made another powerful break. She’s taken into contact, but Winger, Katie Bartholomew, supporting the run, nips in quickly to take the offload and finishes the job by scoring Eastbourne's 5th try.
The halftime whistle is blown with the score at 0 - 31
SECOND HALF
The second half saw Eastbourne getting Jazzy with it, with Fly Half, Jasmine Moulding, and Flanker, Jazz Dymott, racking up 26 points between them.
Burgess Hill, with possession and something to prove, went into contact hard with Eastbourne’s forwards. Jazzy Dymott steals the ball with a textbook jackle and sets off at pace. Her speed and agility unmatched, she scores the 6th try for Eastbourne. Her Jazzy Fly Half counterpart making the conversion, taking the score up to 0- 38.
Just 3 minutes later, Jazz Dymott is at it again. Hungry like the wolf, she sets off for the hattrick and does so in style, placing the ball down with ease right under the posts. An easy conversion for Jasmine Moulding.
A quick take from Burgess Hill after the reset and the pressure is on for Eastbourne. Set back in their 22, Eastbourne go in for a scrum with Burgess Hill looking determined to drive. Scrum Half, Emily Harwood-King, takes a quick ball from the back of the scrum and paces off down the pitch, gaining valuable territory into Burgess Hills 22. Out of puff, but not out of luck, Emily goes down with Fly-Half, Jasmine Moulding hot on her heels. A quick pick and go from the No. 10 sees her score her first try of the match straight under the post, which she beautifully converted moments later.
67 minutes in, Burgess Hill get points on the board with a penalty kick from their number 10. The score now at 3 - 52.
In a last attempt to get more points on the board Burgess Hills No. 10 kicks down the pitch. The ball is deftly retrieved by Centre, Ellisha Spicer who makes a hard run going almost all the way. She’s taken into contact and offloads to the ever present No. 10, Jasmine Moulding who scores the final try of the game, bringing final score to 3 - 57.
An incredible result for Eastbourne Women in their first away game of the season with their biggest score on the board to date.
Forward of the Match was awarded to Captain Becks Tyler for her powerful defensive play and composure in the game. Back of the Match went to Centre, Sophie Coates, for her clean lines and strong runs.
