Eastbourne welcomed high flying Trinity RFC to Park Avenue on Saturday, 17th October, which served up another tight, physical game.
Eastbourne have been on the wrong end of two very tight games in successive weekends with 2 points and 1 point being the difference, with late conceded points. Unfortunately this week was no different.
Trinty raced to a 21 point to 3 lead at half time with strong running and a good offloading game across the back division, Eastbourne always looked like they could trouble Trinity, but could not hold on to possession long enough to really trouble the away team.
However, after half time and some strong words, Eastbourne put Trinity under real pressure and ran hard at the away side for long periods of time. This combined with serious scrum dominance caused problems and Eastbourne crossed the line through Mason Dowle, who is slowly returning to his best form following injury. Trinity then conceded two yellow cards at scrum time as well as a penalty try due to the scrum dominance Eastbourne were demonstrating.
Eastbourne conceded a sloppy try which cost them dear. Backed up with an unfortunate penalty.
Jerry Montes crossed for Eastbourne which capped off a superb game for the 8. Followed by a hard line for Owen Jones that saw him cross and the excellent Leon wood, knock over the conversion to be within 4 points. Eastbourne could not build enough pressure to finish off Trinity, but did receive 2 losing bonus points.
Eastbourne have an entirely young and new back line this season, who are all showing they can get to the level required and are working hard to achieve this. These things take time and top of the league at home next week is another chance to find out how close they are.
Thank you to all our avid supporters and sponsors who keep the team motivated and inspired to keep digging in.
