Eastbourne Women Welcome Ben and Rachel to the Coaching Team

Eastbourne Women Welcome Ben and Rachel to the Coaching Team

Nicky Pysden

Eastbourne Rugby Club is delighted to introduce two familiar faces who will be helping lead the Women's team into the 2026/27 season.

With a shared passion for the game and a deep connection to the club, Ben and Rachel bring a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and commitment to the coaching setup.

Ben – Giving Back to the Club That Started It All
Ben's rugby journey began at just five years old with Eastbourne Rugby Club's minis section. He progressed through the club's junior and colts pathway before playing senior rugby for Eastbourne until the age of 20.

After moving to France, Ben played semi-professional rugby, gaining valuable experience both on and off the pitch. Returning home to Eastbourne, and with his partner playing for the Women's team, stepping into a coaching role felt like a natural progression.
Joining the coaching team during the 2025/26 season, Ben has already seen first-hand the incredible development within the squad.

"It has been incredibly rewarding to see how much the ladies squad has grown, with huge improvements in skills, confidence and overall ability. As the team enters its second season in NC3, I'm excited to continue supporting their development and helping them reach new heights."

For Ben, coaching is about giving back to the club that shaped his rugby career.
"I take great pride in passing on the knowledge and experience I've gained throughout my rugby journey. Eastbourne Rugby Club has always had my heart, and I'm proud to be giving back to the club that gave me so much. I'm looking forward to another exciting season ahead."

Rachel – Leading Through Experience
Rachel has been immersed in rugby from an early age, watching the game since she was five before taking up playing herself at 16.

A respected member of the Women's squad, Rachel served as Vice Captain last season. After injury ruled her out of playing, she chose to remain at the heart of the team by joining the coaching staff, where she is determined to help others develop and enjoy the game she loves.

"I'm looking forward to helping welcome new players, building confidence across the team, whilst helping them to develop their skills and enjoy their rugby."

Her recent playing experience and understanding of the squad make her an invaluable addition to the coaching team, particularly in supporting new players as they begin their rugby journey.

Looking Ahead
The addition of Ben and Rachel strengthens an already passionate coaching team as Eastbourne Women prepare for another exciting season in NC3. Their combined playing experience, knowledge of the club and commitment to player development will help continue the team's impressive progress both on and off the field.

Everyone at Eastbourne Rugby Club wishes Ben and Rachel every success in their new coaching roles, and we look forward to seeing the Women's team continue to grow throughout the 2026/27 season.
