A speedy scrum half, a love of post-match pints, and a business built on putting people at ease. This time, we’re getting to know ERFC's Emily Harwood-King and the team behind Rent Ready HMOs, Rachel Manning and Adam Dixon, who are backing the women’s game this season.
Meet the Player: Emily Harwood-King
Known as Em to her teammates, 32-year-old scrum half Emily has been playing rugby on and off for around 10 years, first discovering the sport at university. Now going into her second season with us, she’s enjoying the camaraderie that makes women’s rugby so special.
For Em, the best thing about rugby "is playing alongside like-minded women who love and support you". And she’s already made a memorable milestone her own: playing her first league game at the age of 31!
Her position of choice? Scrum half, naturally. As Em puts it, it means she can chase the ball without getting shouted at by the coaches!
Away from the pitch, Em is a mum of two and a business owner, but there’s more to her than meets the eye. Her teammates might be surprised to learn that she writes poetry, while cricket would be her sporting alternative if rugby weren’t in the picture.
When it comes to match-day essentials, the post-match pints with the opposition are a highlight, and Baddadan by Chase & Status gets her fired up before kick-off. If she could share a pitch with any rugby star, it would be New Zealand legend Ruby Tui.
And how would she describe herself as a player in three words? Fast, Funny, Gassy. We’ll let her teammates decide which one is most accurate!
Meet the Sponsor: Rent Ready HMOs
Supporting Em this season are Rachel Manning and Adam Dixon of Rent Ready HMOs, an Eastbourne-based property management business helping landlords enjoy the benefits of property ownership without the day-to-day headaches.
Specialising in houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), the business takes care of the everyday running of properties, from tenant management to minor maintenance issues. They also support buy-to-let landlords, helping keep properties running smoothly and landlords’ minds at ease.
For Rachel and Adam, one of the most rewarding parts of running a local business is making a positive difference to tenants’ lives while building relationships with trusted local tradespeople.
Their decision to support Eastbourne RFC came after following the progress of the Women’s Rugby team last season. They were delighted by the squad’s improvement and wanted to show their belief in the club and the fantastic work happening across all its teams.
As they explain, supporting the club is a way to give back to the community they call home and show just how much they care about Eastbourne.
Looking ahead, they’re excited to see the town represented by its brilliant sportsmen and women throughout the season.
And if they could invite one rugby star to a dream dinner? Their choice is Maggie Alphonsi - a living legend and an inspiration to anyone thinking about picking up a rugby ball.
Supporting Local Rugby, Supporting Eastbourne
From helping landlords and tenants across Eastbourne to backing the women making their mark on the rugby pitch, Rent Ready HMOs are showing how local businesses can make a real difference to their community.
A huge thank you to Rachel and Adam for supporting Emily and Eastbourne RFC this season!
