An enthusiastic crowd, full of Christmas cheer, were delighted to witness Eastbourne`s best performance of the season to date

London & SE League - division 3

Eastbourne..37 Park House..10

An enthusiastic crowd, full of Christmas cheer, were delighted to witness Eastbourne`s best performance of the season to date in which they brushed aside the challenge from a robust Park House. By scoring six tries to two, they gained the extra bonus point and ended the year in the best possible style.

The home side dominated the early exchanges and when Nick King crashed through on 10 minutes for a try that was converted by the excellent boot of Nathan Ring, victory always looked possible. Minutes later, it was King again who seemed certain to score, only for desperate defence to haul him down; quick thinking by prop Liam Goldsmith handed him the points instead. 12 points ahead after only the first quarter.

Charlie Smith looked dangerous on the wing throughout the game and a wonderful forty metre run could so easily have led to better reward. Instead, it was the lively visiting scrum half who recorded the next score to open the Park House account; however from the resultant kick off, Van Bentham won good possession and slick passing to the right gave King his second of the afternoon. The score at the turn-around was 17-5 in favour of the Blue & Golds.

With the elements and the slope in the favour, Eastbourne looked good for victory and with James Gray on for Mottram, pressure began to mount. Not however before a riposte from the Park House pack who went over from a rolling maul. Thereafter it was all Eastbourne. Pysden took a very quick tap penalty and put Max Cheater into space for a well deserved score. Goldsmith got his second on the half hour after a typical bullocking run and skipper Steve Clark, who had put in some huge tackles on his opposing centre, got on to the score sheet after some excellent work by Nathan Ring. Between times, Ring had slotted a splendid penalty from 30 metres out.

Three tries in the second half added to the earlier three, was just reward for an enterprising display of running rugby. Continue like this into 2016 and progress up the table will surely follow. Man of the match went to Liam Goldsmith for a breathtaking show at tight head prop. But congratulations went to all 18 team members
