A result for our Eastbourne 2nd XV as they beat Sussex Police @ Brighton

Several 1st XV players attended the match against Sussex Police. Eastbourne fielded a combined 2nd & 3rd team, blending a the wise heads of some 3rd team regulars with the youthful exuberance of 2nd team players. The 1st team players looked on as the Eastbourne flag was carried high by this combination team; playing a good brand of Rugby at Eastbourne has become the standard this season and this game was no exception. A good platform was set by the forwards which allowed the lively back line to cut through the thin blue line at regular intervals. Strong Performance in the back row form Matt Hayllar, Jamie Keen and Luke Wilmer demonstrated the strength in depth that is being established at the club. Their strong ball carrying and robust defence ensured that Eastbourne were on top throughout and gave the watching players and management food for thought.

So far this season the lower teams at Eastbourne have struggled to perform consistently, this display showed that the potential exists and that the Rugby being played is enjoyable, and effective. Strength in numbers is the immediate target to allow players of all levels to fully participate at the club and the enjoyment and satisfaction seen across all players on Saturday suggest that there are more good times ahead.

This week sees the 1st Team return to league action with a trip to Brighton to face their 2nd Xv, with two more league games before the Christmas break the aim is to continue to set ourselves high performance levels and challenge ourselves to improve each week.

The 2nd Xv travel to Hove for their league game with Hove 4’sd and the 3rd team entertain Hastings & Bexhill 2’s – a full and busy weekend ahead, but one that everyone involved will enjoy.
