Eastbourne 2s started the match strong and continued throughout, with dominant scrums, hard tackling and rucking along with slick and quick passing in the backs. All of this created many chances for Eastbourne to score. tries came from Owen Jones, Charlie Milner and Matt Saunders with conversions from Shaun Everett. There were a few opportunities that did not go Eastbournes way with a 50/50 call to not allow two tries. St Francis managed to score two tries of their own through broken play which made the game close at one stage. However, Eastbourne’s fitness, game management as well as impacts from the bench, to ensure Eastbourne held out for their first victory of the league season.
There were several notable performances throughout the match, some coming from former players who have not played for a while, but Man of the match went to second row Pete Newman, who carried, tackled and scrummaged brilliantly throughout the match. Tackle of day went to Ben Gower (once again!) who produced a massive try saving tackle near the end of the match on a player twice his size! Doughnut of the day went to Kai Wallis who turned up to the match without any shorts, thankfully a teammate had a spare pair!
