Without the 1st XV in action this weekend it was down to a strong Nomads team to put on a show for the Eastbourne supporters. Having lost heavily to the Police recently the 2nd XV were determined to display their skills effectively and get their revenge. The game kicked off early so that everyone could watch England host Italy in the Six Nations. Despite the recent rain the pitch was still in reasonable condition for some good running rugby. Aaron Stevenson converted an early penalty and good work by a forceful home pack led to winger Delaney wriggling over for a try. Good possession from Eastbourne on the half-hour led to a fine solo effort by scrum-half Paul Keen beating his opponents with good angles of running, deception and speed. Stevenson converted to give the Nomads a deserved 15-0 lead at half-time.
As hard as the visitors tried they were unable to keep Eastbourne out of their territory and it was not long before Shane Wyatt at hooker was able to barge his way over for another five-pointer which Stevenson converted. Despite dominating play for long periods it was another twenty minutes before Eastbourne scored again. A great run by substitute Ricky van Bentham led to him breaking a number of tackles and crashing over for a well-deserved score. After a further series of assaults on the Police line Paul Keen finished off an excellent afternoon's work with his second try. Final score Eastbourne Nomads 32 - Sussex Police 0. Man of the Match Paul Keen. Danny Craven's Third XV lost out 29-3 to Hove IVth's in the Sussex Salver semi-final.
Next week Eastbourne 1st XV are at home to Chichester III lying sixth in the table, but are away the following week to league title challengers Burgess Hill who are now in second place.
